What to do if you have a lot of flashcards in your study plan?
If you currently have too many flashcards due today in your study plan, meaning you're practically overwhelmed by a large stack of cards when you open the app or website, there are several ways to improve the situation.
You can change the following settings in the general settings (click on your avatar in the top right corner, then "Settings") in the "Study Plan" tab.
1. Change the time intervals
Under "Time intervals in study plan," you should set the interval so that flashcards you've known three or more times in a row when they were due in your study plan aren't due again until after a longer interval.
This means: Change the number of days from the fourth time you've known a flashcard to 25 days or more, and for all subsequent learning levels (up to 10 and beyond!), increase the interval even further. This should significantly streamline your study plan.
2. Deactivate Flashcards After Reaching a Learning Level
Even more effective: In the "Learning Levels of Flashcards" section, you can use the option "Deactivate card when it reaches the learning level." The default is 0 (meaning the card isn't deactivated at all). Setting this to 4 or 5, for example, should help. However, this only takes effect the next time the card is reviewed; the number of cards in your study plan won't change immediately.
3. Limit Flashcards per Day
In the "Study Plan Limits" section, you can configure the maximum number of cards that can be reviewed each day. This can result in cards that are due today not being reviewed if the number of cards due exceeds your set limit.
Tip: In the study options, be sure to set the order to "by due date." This prevents a flashcard that is due but has been postponed from being postponed indefinitely and potentially never appearing in your review.
4. Shift Your Study Plan
One possible reason for a very high number of cards in your study plan is if you didn't study on some days, even though cards were due. The cards due from several days then accumulate into increasingly larger numbers.
However, if you shift your study plan back a few days using the "Shift Study Plan" option—for example, by the number of days you took a break—the plan will even out again, and you should see fewer cards due per day.
